We've been informed by a woman in Canada that the packaged hand
"wipes" sold to disinfect one's skin and "clean" infants, produce
false positive results on the "drug sniffer." The woman
is a frequent visitor at prisons and writes that, what she calls
"chlorine-bases" wipes, have been removed from the prisons in
British Columbia because of the false positives that they cause.
An effort is also underway to have them removed from the prisons
in Alberta.
While Canada has far fewer prisons that the United States (or than Pennsylvania) and while the system is far more humane, the drug mania is nonetheless a fixture of "corrections'" control freaks. We urge prison visitors to avoid using prepackaged "wipes" and also, not to fill their cars with gas before a prison visit. Even gasoline fumes produce false positives. The drug sniffer is really a kind of completely unreliable medieval witchcraft. Legitimate visitors are deterred because of the alchemy's unreliability and false accusations. We've learned that MANY brands of hand lotions and creams, especially those containing hydrocortisone and perfumes, habitually cause false positive ion scanner results as can the air fresheners used in bathrooms. Of course paper currency is a common source of contamination and false positive. By far, the most common cause of false positive scanner results is the dirty machine. If you should test positive and you know you're clean, insist that the tester try it on himself/herself. |
