Your Drinking Water May
Give You False Positive
Drug Scans

By: Murray Murphy

Every prison visitor realizes that the so-called "Ion Scanner" employed on visitors is completely unreliable. We all also know that the prisons use the "scanner" simply to harass visitors and to discourage visiting. Their use should be stopped.

Now, a serious new complication has been established.

Recent scientific studies have confirmed what we've long suspected. Your drinking water is likely contaminated with drugs. Clearly, you may falsely test positive for illegal drugs simply because you drink the water!

Cities all over Pennsylvania and, indeed, all over the nation have contaminated drinking water. Philadelphia seems to have the worst, most polluted, water supply.

Philadelphia's water was found to contain at least 63 different drugs and medications including cocaine. Narcotics were found in the water along with many other prescription and over-the-counter medications. The list includes drugs not just for illegal recreation, but also drugs to treat:

  • asthma
  • mental illness
  • heart disease
  • epilepsy
  • pain
  • and even antibiotics to treat infection
Some of the contamination was from veterinary medications including steroids and hormones.

We can't say how contaminated bottled water may be. It appears to be even more tainted than the ordinary tap water from which it's made. Distilled water and real spring water are likely safe and free of drugs.

We know that cities in Pennsylvania such as Pittsburgh, Erie, Reading, Lancaster, Allentown, Scranton and so forth have contaminated water. Such contaminated water may produce false positives on the drug "ion scanner" especially during the summer when persons sweat. We urge the greatest caution. Remember also that the water in some of the prisons may also be contaminated. The Pittsburgh prison, for example has polluted water. If a visitor washes her hands before being "scanned," the water itself may produce a false positive. The same may be said for the prison at Chester. The Frackville prison has other water contaminants.
