After destroying most of Iraq, its priceless antiquities, fragile
infrastructure and over half a million of its people; after chasing
half it's population into desperate exile; after making ourselves
fools and enemies of decency, the Bush occupiers want to imprison
the remaining Iraqis.
America is obsessed with imprisoning people. America has become, not the "land of the free," but the land of the imprisoned. We've locked up over 6,000,000 of our own people. Now we're at it in Iraq. One of our first chores when we started our invasion and occupation of Iraq was to build prisons. That wasn't enough. The American military now imprisons whole sections of Baghdad, the capital city. The American military at President Bush's behest, built ghettos; built walls around Sunni Islam neighborhoods, imprisoning everyone inside. We built Sunni ghettos just as the Nazis invaders built Jewish ghettos in Poland. The only serious construction or reconstruction in Baghdad was the prison walls. America has a sick fixation on walls. It's in the process of walling off the United States from its neighbors. What's happened to freedom? liberty? and the "land of the brave?"
