Several times a day the loudspeaker announces:"Count time - County time. Standing count, lights on. Remain visible for the second officer." Guards like to call themselves "officers." It makes them feel important...But they know the truth. When the guard called "Grapejuice" struts onto the wing, he blusters his own command." Remain visible! These are grown men (and women), but it's a chore for them to count all the way up to two. The real question, of course, is, how could anybody NOT remain visible? Cloaks of Invisibility aren't sold in the commissary. Harry Potter doesn't live here (at least not yet). Everyone I know is pretty much visible even to a casual glance. To Grapejuice and the guy on the loudspeaker visibility must mean something else or maybe their eyesight is remarkably poor. More likely, they're just looking for a prisoner to be a scapegoat. When they screw up the count, they just claim that one of the prisoners wasn't visible, or that he duplicated himself and so was counted twice. If most prisoners could be invisible, I think they might do something with it besides messing up Grapejuice's count.
