Ugly Injustice

By: Burt Atlantic Parks

The law certainly isn't blind. It's prejudice against many groups, Hispanics, for example and Blacks. Everybody knows that those kinds of people are always guilty.

The law's also prejudiced against men, of course. Everybody, even men know that other men are no good (or, at least they are unwelcome competition).

One of the cruelest prejudices is the law's slant against the ugly. Most convicts are more or less ugly because there's an unconscious prejudice against unattractive people, especially against unattractive men.

Judges and juries are much more likely to convict ugly defendants than beautiful ones. On the same evidence and circumstances, the law is much more likely to give the benefit of the doubt to the handsome man over the homely one.

If you're attractive enough, you can get away with murder. If your ugly enough (or even Hispanic enough), you can't even get away with being innocent!
