Tryptophan [pronounced trip' ta fan] is a fairly common chemical found in some foods. It's called an amino acid, chemically, C11 H12N202 .
Even rather small traces may act as a drug on human beings. Many persons, especially men, may display a strong reaction to the substance.
In moderate amounts, tryptophan makes people sleepy. Prolonged use may make them docile, compliant, complaisant and even obedient. It somewhat reduces the sexual drives as well as rebellion, combativeness and defiance. It makes men passive. It might be seen as an anti-masculine drug. Tryptophan is present in milk, especially reduced fat milk. That's why a glass of warm milk at bedtime promotes sleep while discouraging bedtime sexuality. It's present in substantially larger quantities in turkey. That's why men sleep after Thanksgiving dinner. The Pennsylvania prison system has begun a policy of adding huge quantities of turkey to prisoners' diet. At the same time they have removed red meats from the diet. Red meats may enhance some male aggressiveness. The addition of so much turkey to prisoners' diets (at least one meal a day) has the effect of drugging the prisoners with tryptophan. Over time, as the amino acid accumulates in the body, the prisoner loses some of his natural masculine energy. He becomes more docile, passive and obedient. Fifty years ago, the Pennsylvania prison system salted prisoners' food with sodium nitrate, or sometimes potassium nitrate. The chemical is more commonly called saltpeter because it "salts" the guy's peter. It prevents erections and so interferes with sex. It has no real effect on the libido and doesn't make men docile or passive, just frustrated and angry. The prison system claimed that saltpeter was used to preserve the food. It does preserve food and is often sprayed on super market vegetables today. That's a good reason to wash the lettuce before tossing the salad. The Pennsylvania prison system was and is run by some pretty dumb people. It took them years to realize that saltpeter did more harm than good. They finally quit using it about 1965. Now prison administrators have discovered tryptophan. It's much more effective. Secretly feeding enough of it to unsuspecting prisoners makes them sheep-like, passive, good little boys. The guards have less trouble and less to do. There's only one slight drawback in the conspiracy. The guards don't realize it. The guards eat the same prison meals. Labor becomes much easier for management to control.
