Like other Republican presidents Ronald Reagan was VERY
bad. Like other Republican presidents the Republican party has
successfully revised history. They've created a mythology in
which the senile and deluded old actor is a Republican ideal, an
ideal of the failed past, the politics of money over people and
state over people.
One of Reagan's accomplishments was to appoint Michael Deli Sijander as a delegate to the United Nations. At the time, Sijander was a second-term Republican congressman from Michigan where big business was successfully buying votes and influence among the Republicans. Sijander hadn't been much of a congressman, about as crooked as other Republicans. He was even less significant as a UN delegate. He succeeded in sympathizing with some of the most radical Islamic elements in the oil-rich Middle East. (Oil riches are a very big attraction to Republicans who worship money.) After padding his resume with government "service" and foreign relations experience, Sijander did what all good Republicans do. He became a sleazy influence peddler, buying the votes of other Republicans on Capitol Hill. As a lobbyist he bought favors for an outfit using the name the Islamic American Relief Agency. His services were apparently paid for with stolen US government money, a fairly common Republican practice. Michael Deli Sijander, the former Republican congressman has now been indicted on 42 counts for various kinds of aid to terrorists and terror organizations. He's accused of money laundering, obstruction of justice, terrorist fund-raising and many other crimes. The Republicans who conspired with him (and there were dozens of them) appear to have slipped away from "justice." I admit that I'm sympathetic with Moslems. American Christians and Jews have spent decades demeaning and maligning them and their religion. I also admit that I find the Moslem religion every bit as silly and damaging as Christianity. In fact, they share many evils. Religious mythology is dangerous for the wellbeing of the human species. I admit that I'm not perfectly clear about what "terrorism" means. I don't think there is any bigger terrorist group than the United States government with an atomic arsenal aimed at innocent peoples all over the world. I'm a lot more terrorized by my own government and its dictatorial aliens than by the code-word "terrorist" assigned to foreign extremists. Republicans are far more likely to harm us than foreign desert-dwellers are likely to harm us. Bush caused the deaths of FAR more innocent persons than any Iraqi dictator or Islamic crackpot. My suggestion is to beware of the Republicans. It's possible that not all Republicans are crooks and creeps, but why risk it?
