Medical Neglect Takes
Another Prisoner's Life

I've personally tried to deal with Barbara Malewski, the so-called Healthcare Administrator at the state prison at Frackville in East-Central Pennsylvania. I know how hard it is to get any kind of satisfaction, interest or concern. The Malewski woman was unresponsive, unprofessional and without any apparent concern for sick prisoners. Where the boss is like that, how will the medical staff be?

For weeks Steven Gresiak sought meaningful medical care. He was shrugged off; given Motrin and sent back to his cell to die. For weeks the 50 year-old man begged for medical treatment. No one had any apparent interest in the sick prisoner.

Steven Gresiak died from the neglect.

The prison medical department is contracted to Prison Health Services*. As hard as it is to believe, it's even worse now than it was when Wexford had the contract. I'm told that the nursing staff is pleasant, concerned and helpful. I can't say the same for Barbara Malewski and some of her subordinates. If you have a loved one at the Frackville prisoner keep a close eye on him. They may end up like Steven Gresiak; dead from neglect.
