| Prison personnel should not be allowed to subject us prison visitors to the use of the so-called ion-scanner gadget.
At a visit about three years ago, I was approached to be searched by being patted down. Although I knew that I had nothing to worry about, I was a nervous wreck because I knew that if they wanted to say they'd found this or that, there wasn't a thing I could do about it. I'm the sixty year-old wife of a man who's doing life. There' nothing I wouldn't allow them to do to me in order to get my once-a-week visit, but it's not right. Neither my husband or I ever did a drug in our lives. I was only patted down once. It was done by the guard in charge. He's seen me for years coming to visit and he was very nice and polite, so it didn't startle me. In his heart he knew that I was okay, so he also wanted to searched the other two women who had come up with me in the same car. There was no reason at all. While I'll submit to most anything for my visit, the other women went to the lieutenant, but to no avail. Here, about a month later, that same guard was locked up and removed from the prison for possession of drugs! How can we put a stop to such searches and to the ion "scanner;" I don't know. I still go to visit and every third visit, I now get "scanned." Again I have nothing to hide, but I'm always a nervous wreck because, like I said, if they say the scan is no good, I don't get to see my husband. If anyone has any ideas of how we can put a stop to this please email me." |
