Okay, so he's not really dead, but at least he's off the bench. Maybe he'll die soon. Better yet, maybe he'll live a long, long time and get to think about his deeds.
Albert Sabo is a runt. He's a runt both in body and spirit. In January 1998 Philadelphia finally rid itself of his blight. He was a judge for 25 terrible years. He liked to sentence black men to die. During his career he gave 27 black men death sentences. To round it out a little, he also sentenced 4 whites to die.
He's claimed to have condemned more people to death than any other judge in the world. Of course, there is no place so inhumane as Philadelphia unless it's Texas. No foreign nation slaughters its citizens like America.
One of the runt's more noteworthy show-trials was the lynching of Abu-Jamal.
I thank the court administrators for finally yanking Al, kicking and screaming, from the bench. Philadelphia is better for it. Here's hoping that Sabo lives to be 105 and has plenty of time to reflect on what it means to die.
