The "God-Given Right" To
Keep And Bear Vegetables

By: Roberta Webster

I confess that I both like and admire Professor Julian Heicklen. He's the Penn State Chemistry Professor turned social activist who has been crusading against drug laws and our corrupt legal "just-us" system generally.

Personally, I think drugs are dumb, dangerous and immature, especially the worst drug of all: alcohol. But, laws against using drugs are even dumber. Next there will be laws against orgasm! (In fact, Representative Lawless and Senator Greenleaf may be working on it right now!)

If you or the Professor, or the President, or anyone wants to use dope, I figure that that's on you. The laws the cops use against drugs are a thousand times worse than the "problem." It seems to me that the reason that drugs are such a terrible social blight is because they are illegal and therefore so expensive that they promote real crimes.

Okay, well, Prof Heicklen has apparently been smoking the "M" vegetable and baiting the cops. They tried to ignore it. Prof forced the issue. Silly man expects "justice." No, Doctor, that's not how it works. This is America. This is Pennsylvania. All you should expect is corruption and "just-us!"

So the DJ threw the retired professor into the slammer. Why? Well, for starters, the "accused" expected the "judge" to be present for the hearing. He expected to be allowed to make a statement in his own behalf and, he expected a "presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury." Silliest of all, the good Professor expected the "judge" to treat him with respect! Get real! "Judges," even the slimy little bastards of the minor judiciary, are arrogant, self-important slugs. Their job is to oppress the citizens and they do it with gusto!

Being a reasonable and practical man, Professor Heicklen expected nominal bail, a truly speedy trial and a trial by his peers. What? He believes that middle-class bullshit? All that rhetoric is just the "American Lie." It's pap fed to school children and naive middle-class drones to keep them plugging blindly away thinking that they are "protected" by the Law.

Needless to say, the Professor is in jail. A group he founded in 1996, Smart On Crime, circulated information supporting him. In support of the right to smoke marijuana, they say: "He and we believe that individuals have the God-given right to keep and bear vegetables, and that it is immoral to arrest anyone for owning a vegetable."

They ask: Please write to President Judge Charles C. Brown, Jr., Judges Chambers, Centre County Courthouse, Bellefont, PA 16823 to request that the Court obey the Constitution of the United States and the norms of human civility."
