I recently wrote about Ted Stevens, the
Republican senator from Alaska. I used him as an example
of what the whole Republican party is like, crooked, even crazy.
I was criticized because not every single Republican
politician is corrupt and out to harm ordinary citizens. My
critics could be right. Maybe some Republican politicians really
want to help the one or two people and not just themselves and
big business. I've never met him, however.
I waited a couple weeks to see what would develop. Here's the story of another Republican. Richard (alias "Rick") Renzi is a United States representative from the barbaric state of Arizona. Guess what, he's up to his wallet in a corruption scandal. A huge mining conglomerate, Resolution Copper Company owned by giants Rio Tinto, PLC and BHP Billiton, Ltd. are implicated in a scheme in which they supposedly purchased Representative Renzi to rig a land swap deal so that they could mine a national forest. Okay, maybe Republican Rick wasn't bought and paid for, but it's sure starting to look as if every Republican in government is on the payroll of some big business to screw you and me for their own profit. Republican Richard Renzi is also being investigated for tax evasion, campaign finance violations and other shady stuff. Kickbacks on land deals is not a new Republican hobby. They've been stealing land since there were Republicans. Look at the Transcontinental Railroad debacle. What amazes me is how dumb the voters are. Suckers keep putting the crooks in office. It's an important political lesson; the American electorate are stooges who buy the Republican fanciful mythology. It's a pity for everyone except Republicans like Rick Renzi. One of the most interesting sidelights to the case is that the crooked Republicans in the Bush White House actively interfered with Renzi's investigation and prosecution. They arranged to fire the prosecuting US attorney in hopes of getting Renzi off the hook. The illegal interference allowed Renzi to be reelected is a close race. Rove and the boys in the White House obstructed justice - again! I guess I was right after all. With very few exceptions, if it's a Republican politician, he cares nothing about you. He cares about big business, a dictatorial goverment and money in his own purse.
