We got the following letter from a lady in Allentown. We think that it expresses the tone of frustration and disbelief of most ordinary citizens who have gotten a taste of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. While she included her name and address, we have withheld them to protect her privacy. (Lots of prison guards are regular visitors to this site and we all know what kinds of people they are.)
"I'm a 30 year old woman who has maintained a relationship with a prisoner at SCI-Camp Hill for over 5 years. Throughout those five years, I have experienced a lot of frustration not with my soul-mate (to whom I have gratefully given my time and effort), but with the system that holds him away from me.
"He was a teen when he was imprisoned in the system. That was over 11 years ago. Regardless what accomplishments he's made, it doesn't matter. They continue to release those who have done far worse than him and have made little or no improvement in themselves. I fail to understand any of it, except, in my heart, I know full well that the system is unjust.
"If you have any comments or suggestions, please let me know."
