The following is a genuine email and a deliciously psychotic example of the genera. We reproduce it here with a few very minor corrections (it is quite well composed) and footnotes because it reflects the aggressive minds of a certain class of persons who wish not simply to call names, but to inflict pain and harm upon others. Our view is that it's not generally desirable for anyone to harm anyone. Obviously, our view is not shared by some other persons. To call a person a name is an effort to cause the individual pain. It's an all too common practice especially with those who feel a need to avenge themselves for real or imagined pains caused to them. By contrast, expressing a desire for some one to be bombed, murdered, raped or otherwise physically injured, expresses a more profound personality problem. We encourage persons who may suffer from such strong and disturbing emotions to express themselves to professionals who may be able to offer relief. While this email no doubt violates not just good manners and etiquette, but also the criminal laws, relating to terroristic threats, we feel that it's a textbook insight into the violent mind of troubled persons. "AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED THE ONLY SOLUTION TO PRISON OVERCROWDING IS TO BOMB ALL PRISONS TO THE GROUND WITH THE SCUM INSIDE THEM[,] THEN REBUILD THEM[,] REFILL THEM AND DO IT AGAIN ... PEOPLE LIKE YOU1 MAKE ME2 SICK ... I HOPE YOU OR YOUR CHILD OR SOME FAMILY MEMBER IS RAPED AND MURDERED BY ONE OF THESE PIECES OF SCUM ... THEY SHOULD ALL BE ANNIHILATED AND PEOPLE LIKE YOU ALONG WITH THEM ... GO AHEAD WITH YOUR PATHETIC ATTEMPT TO CODDLE THESE PIECES OF HUMAN GARBAGE ... THE PUBLIC ISN[']T BUYING IT ... NOWHERE IN YOUR SHITHOLE [sic] OF A WEBSITE DO YOU MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT THE VICTIMS!!3 ... YOU PEOPLE ARE FUCKING TRASH[.] YOU DESERVE TO BE LOCKED UP ALONG WITH THIS SCUM..I WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU TALK THIS HORSESHIT [sic] TO VICTIM[']S FAMILIES ... YOU WOULD BE DEAD BEFORE YOU HIT THE GROUND4...SO LONG[,] DOUCHEBAG[.] [sic]" Footnotes 1 The email was addressed to our young female manager, Barbara Kestler with a cc to our Editor In Chief, Edgar Saint George. 2 For obvious reasons, we've had the writer of the email remain anonymous. We wouldn't want him to be picked up in New York. Email is VERY easy to trace riqht to an address. 3 The writer obviously hasn't read the website.
