What's unusual is that you heard about it at all. Only a bizarre string of lucky breaks brought this particular grotesque episode to light. What about the hundreds of cases you never hear about? The guys try to tell people, but you believe the cops.
Rule number one: Trust In The Tooth Fairy Before You Trust In The Cops!
Guards in Texas subject petty convicts to savage torture. They use clubs and dogs and stun guns to brutalize their victims. The desperate men crawl across the floor like animals. You see the videotape on television and think that it's inhumane but unusual.

The guys try to tell people, but you believe the vicious guards. The victims are only prisoners so you assume they are lying.
The Texas incident made news only because prison brutality is so universal and the guards are so utterly arrogant in their power that they were making a training tape. They were showing off for new recruits, teaching them how to abuse helpless prisoners.
To the guards it was nothing more than batting practice. They weren't afraid of being caught maiming the prisoners. They were just instructing new members of their gang in the arts of being an official thug.
Being trusting and well indoctrinated middle-class drones, you think that nothing like the New York and Texas brutality could go on in Pennsylvania prisons.
Rule Two: Sucker!
Beatings and organized brutality go on in every one of the Pennsylvania prisons. The guys try to tell you, but they're convicts so you figure they're lying, and the guards grin!
But, being an obedient and gullible citizen, you trust the officials. Didn't Commissioner Horn himself announce on television that prisoners are nothing but liars? Didn't he assure you that guards are as benevolent as pixies? Would he lie through his teeth like a two-faced politician? And the guards grin!
Your Governor is obsessed with mind control and information control. The last thing Ridge wants you to know is the truth or any part of the truth. The last thing he'll tolerate is you thinking for yourself.
Being docile followers, you buy his bowl of pap. And the guards grin!
The truth is that in all of Pennsylvania's many prisons, guards abuse, bully, beat and sometimes torture prisoners. Individually, and in organized gangs, officials brutalize prisoners. The guys try to tell you, but you trust Ridge's thugs, and the guards grin!
Prisoners who try to tell you what's going on get put into the hole. Telephone calls are monitored. Visits are curtailed. Prisoners are only allowed to talk to and visit with persons who are approved by the officials.
Being "free" and whimpy, you take what the officials feed you, but going to prison is not unusual. You may be the next victim of the brutality.
