We salute New Jersey's Democratic governor, Jon S. Corzine, and the Democrats in the New Jersey state legislature. They've abolished the death penalty in the state. These courageous and compassionate persons have brought New Jersey into line with the civilized parts of the world such as: No death penalty in West virginia No death penalty in and part of Europe No death penalty in Russia No death penalty in most of Central America No death penalty in Canada No death penalty in most of South America No death penalty in Iowa No death penalty in numerous other civilized US states. This event again points out the differences between the Democrats and the Republicans. As we all recoginze, the Republicans are the party of hatred, of exclusion and of the wealthy. By contrast, as a party, the Democrats are civilized and decent. They've recognized that killing one another is bad public policy. We salute them and the fine people of New Jersey. When will Pennsylvania ever follow their example? Not while the loathsome Republicans hold so much sway in the Commonwealth!
