With the arrival of television's 24 hour news channels there's
been much less real news, much more repetition of the trivial
and much more pure manure. We're less well informed than we were
forty years ago, except, perhaps, about celebrities and
conservative crackpots.
MS-NBC is the least bad of the "Big-Four" news channels. It's certainly not good, but its well above the others. CNN, which started out as a good idea has deteriorated. It's not really news and it's damn poor entertainment. The world is going to hell while CNN talks about hotdog eating and getting a cat out of a giant oak. CNN Headline News is Hate-o-Vision, biased, bigoted. It is a pulpit for hatred. Headline News educates us. It's an insight into the minds of the enemies of decency and humanity. There are people out there who want to harm you and many are on Headline News. Of course, FOX News has nothing whatever to do with news. That's just the sheep's clothing it wears to distribute its extremist propaganda. What's not lies are distortions. Sponsors line up to pay for the propaganda. We would do well to take notice of the businesses who support these neo-Nazis and to avoid them. Such news as really exists is online, not on television. Certainly, NPR (National Public Radio) gives a fair view of the important news, but in only about 2 to 5 minute slices. It's truthful and significant, but often lacking depth. It doesn't have to kiss-up to corporations and it's rich with facts. The problem with independent online news is there are few correspondents. Each online site can report only what he/she knows from the microcosm of his/her existence and sources. There needs to be an overarching organization to check, edit and arrange reports from hundreds or even thousands of independent reporters. It could sell advertising to offset expenses, or better, it could charge users a small fee to subscribe to its news. Reports could be funneled through 20 to 50 geographical and topical editors. Some or all of the reporters could read their stories on camera for streaming online. It would be a job for amateurs, a hobby. If others think that there is a place for an online news consortium, email me, Edgar Saint George.
