The New College of San Francisco has awarded an honorary doctor of law degree to Mumia Abu-Jamal.
Jamal is the widely known Pennsylvania prisoner who's been fighting to over-turn his death sentence. He has gained international recognition as a black activist, author and jailhouse lawyer.
His association with the MOVE group in Philadelphia has added to his notoriety.
Jamal is on death-row as a result of his conviction for killing a Philadelphia "police officer."
We support Jamal and wish him well. Hopefully his conviction will be over-turned. There are over 170 prisoners on death-row. We support them all. The death penalty is more barbarous than the crimes it's supposed to punish.
