Camp Hill Prison Staff
Operated Huge Drug Gang

By: Joseph Anderson

Four Pennsylvania Department of Imprisonment employees were arrested in the Harrisburg area's biggest ever drug bust. Iridis "Mooch" Smith, a mailroom drone at the Camp Hill state prison, across the river from Harrisburg, was named by police as one of the gang's ringleaders. With 13 others, he's accused of peddling a reported $5,200,000.00 in cocaine, marijuana and other dope during a 10 month period.

Three other Camp Hill prison employees were also implicated in the ring,

  • Sherry Bretzman of Mechanicsburg
  • Brian Harris of Shermans Dale
  • Roxanne Price of Mechanicsburg.

Authorities haven't yet revealed which prison and department executives and employees were aware of the ring's operation. While hundreds of thousands of dollars of drug transactions seem to have talken place at or near the Camp Hill prison, authorities have not yet gotten the accused employees to rat-out their accomplices. It's universally recoganized that prison employees (not visitors) smuggle drugs into the state prisons. In this case, authorities have not yet charge Mooch's gang with selling to prisoners. It is also unclear how the gang used Mooch's mailroom connection, state computers and state facilities to facilitate the drug business.

Juan "Papa" Sanchez of Sequioa Drive, Harrisburg is charged with being Smith's partner and co-boss in operating the drug ring. Rochalice Whiley, an employee of the state Department of Transportation (the notorious PennDOT) was charged with a minor role in the gang.

The scope of the conspiracy is likely to grow. Certainly these state employees will rat-out others both inside and outside the Department of Imprisonment and other state agencies. The eight others so far charged are not prison employees. They are

  • Corby Chester of Camp Hill
  • Thomas Freeman of Lancaster
  • Farrah Martin of Harrisburg
  • Antwon Scott of Highspire
  • Kelly Siar of Camp Hill
  • Eric Smith of Beacon Drive
  • Randy Smith of Columbia
  • Kahlil Williams of Philadelphia.

The Smith/Sanchez gang was apparently one of the largest, if not the largest drug ring in the Harrisburg area. Harrisburg is rightly known as the Unfriendly City. It's the drug capital of the state. The Mayor has a whole district dedicated to promoting the drug alcohol. Camp Hill is not the worst of Pennsylvania's many prisons, but it's a disgraceful horror. The Department of Imprisonment's headquarters is next door to the prison. Executives likely knew what was going on. Pennsylvania's prison system is run by addicts, liars and incompetents.
