Only One of Many
Corruption and Abuse
Uncovered At Scranton Prison
Finally!

By: Moses Craig

Prisoners have complained for years. They said that guards and the warden force them to perform slave labor on private projects, physically abuse them, provide the drugs inside the jail, habitually lie and file false reports. They go on to complain of all sorts of corruption. It's all true.

Investigations and law suits have finally started to uncover the muck at the Lackawanna County Prison in Scranton in the northeastern part of Pennsylvania. The only funny thing is that the Distract Attorney, a rocket scientist named Andrew "Andy" Jarbola claimed to be "shocked and dismayed!" What, does he have his head up his ass? Is he ignorant or a bumbler, or does he just prefer to turn a blind eye because the victims are "only" scumbag prisoners?

What's going on at the Scranton jail is no different than what's going on to some extent in all Pennsylvania prisons. Many places are far worse than Scranton. What do you suppose is going on at the state prison at Frackville, or the one at Smithfield, or Houtsdale, or Camp Hill? Corruption and abuse are the way of life at all 26 of Pennsylvania's state prisons. Physical and verbal abuse is an everyday occurrence. Forcing prisoners into slave labor is the norm. Pennsylvania prisoners are forced to repair the staff's cars, launder their clothes, upholster their furniture, cut their hair, cater their food, repair their homes, shine their shoes and so forth. Different prisons have different slave labor projects. At Smithfield they were forced to build a gym for the staff.

At some prisons lying and making false reports is the guards' credo. At SCI-Frackville, for example, dishonesty is a continuing executive occupation. It's a bad staff that's badly managed; a primitive mentality of sadism and exploitation. Prison is an occupation for the seriously neurotic.

The whole system of imprisonment needs to be reconsidered. If society has a goal, it should be reexamined. This isn't the way to improve the society.
