Taxpayers aren't being treated honestly. If you were given all the facts and asked to decide for yourself, you would spend a LOT less on locking up prisoners.
The "average" Pennsylvania family of four loses about $9.30 every week to keep people in prison. If half the prisoners were released, taxes would go way down! In addition, the released prisoners would be helping to pay the taxes.
If you taxpayers realized how your hard-earned money is being squandered, you would change it. You are misled to focus your ire on the prisoners, but the real cost is the system and the extremist politicians who have gotten a hold on your purse stirngs.
Taxpayers must try to get the hysterical politicians under control. You should be masters of your own taxes.
Recently, the taxpayers in Western Pennsylvania had the opportunity to support the very popular Pittsburgh sport teams. You were asked to agree to pay a tiny tax to subsidize a new stadium for the teams. You soundly rejected the tax.
We believe that if you taxpayers were given the chance, you would flatly reject the fortune being spent on useless imprisonment. We're convinced that you would reject the mammoth subsidy you are now forced to pay to support prisons.
If given an honest chance, taxpayers would use commons sense. You would realize that imprisonment is VERY expensive and not really very productive. You would opt to imprison people only where it's absolutely necessary.
If given the chance, you taxpayers would decide to vote yourselves a $9.30 a week tax-break by releasing from prison everyone except those few prisoners who you felt absolutely deserved to be imprisoned at your expense. You certainly wouldn't support the BILLIONS more that Senator Greenleaf wants to take from you.
We propose a simple ballot question at the next election: "Should each taxpaying family pay $5 or less per week to pay to imprison persons?"
How would you vote?
