Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States: A Path Forward is the federal report of 17 experts. It proves that police labs are full of crap! The lengthy report says what we've been saying for years, no results coming from a police crime lab can be trusted. Everything from fingerprints to ballistic tests to bite-mark evidence is completely unreliable. The sole exception is that DNA testing (which is usually done by outside facilities) is usually reliable. The report is harshly critical of the junk science that's gotten many innocent persons convicted. Cops and prosecutors should not be running laboratories where the results are twisted to support the guilt of persons the cops already think should be guilty. The fox is watching the henhouse! There are no standards for crime labs and no independent accrediting or oversight of their work. They exist as rubber stamps to confirm what the prosecution has already decided the result should be. Sexual cases and evidence are especially unreliable. Even blood, hair and fiber evidence is distorted. When is comes to cops and their labs, you just can't believe anything they say. Defense attorneys must chalange all police crime lab results. The labs are so fundamentally defective that witnesses must not be allowed to testify to what the labs claim the junk science shows. For years we've been writing that police labs should be closed or brought under independent control away from the police. We know cops. They are liars. Their "science" is crap!
