The Koran Desecrated
Believe It!

I've personally witnessed prison guards desecrate the Koran. I've seen it tossed like garbage, thrown in a trash can, walked on and kicked. Admittedly, this desecration occurred in Pennsylvania prisons and not in one of America's federal military concentration camps.

I've never seen a whole Koran flushed down a toilet. It would be a physical impossibility to flush a whole book down one of the toilets in Pennsylvania prisons. I've seen pages torn from books thrown into a toilet, but that wasn't a Koran. It was a law book.

Newsweek magazine caused a stir by reporting that guards at the American concentration camp at Guantanamo, Cuba desecrated the Koran. The Republican administration bullied Newsweek into backing down. Nobody denied that it happened. The Republicans were only mad that Newsweek thought that there was freedom of the press and dared to reported it.

Perhaps American guards throw Korans into toilets, or maybe they throw pages from the book into toilets. That would certainly be in keeping with the mentality of prison guards and the character of the American forces. The Republican gripe seems to focus on the term "flush down." I must concede that it's unlikely that a whole book would be flushed down a toilet. Ripping out the pages would require more effort than most guards care to expend. But who would have thought that they'd go to the extremes to torture so many prisoners in the various concentration camps?

This I can say, at the Pennsylvania prisons at Huntingdon and Mahanoy I've personally witnessed the Koran being desecrated. I have it on very sound authority that it has also occurred at the prison at Camp Hill, at the so-called boot camp, Quehanna, and at the children's prison at Pinegrove. Since it's so common here at home, how much more so in the concentration camps.

In speaking to Christian prisoners here in Pennsylvania, only one, a Jehovah's Witness, thought that the desecration of the Koran was particularly objectionable. Generally, Christians don't much care what's done to the Koran or to Moslems, for that matter. What they rave about is stuff like evolution, gays marrying, and forcing others to read religious messages in public buildings.
