Judge William Shaffer
Isn't Worth a Tinker's Damn

By: Joseph Anderson

Pennsylvania has a lot of bad judges. It seems a little unfair to single out one political hack in such a large field, but William Shaffer merits special notice. His honor is a hack from Butler County in far Western Pennsylvania. The State Supreme Court finally figured out that Judge Shaffer has been violating the Commonwealth's Constitution and the Code of Judicial Conduct. Among other things, his honor wouldn't do his job. It wasn't uncommon for some of his cases to languish for as much as three years!

Of course, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court is hardly a shining example. It's highly politicized and egocentric. The court couldn't be accused of being speed demons or even of being fair. In fact, it's notorious for being as fickle as an adolescent girl.

But back to his honor, the tardy Judge Billy Shaffer, we suggest he take less demanding employment perhaps in the Department of Motor Vehicles.
