An extremist Republican district attorney, John C. Cherry, has become a judge in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He may be insane or simply another viciously sadistic right-wing zealot or something else. Whatever he is, he's utterly unsuited to be a judge.
John Cherry heard a case where a black-man, Kendale L. Wise, shot, but didn't kill a dog - a dog! Judge Cherry sentenced the man to 15 to 30 years in prison! I don't condone shooting dogs, deer, rabbits or neighbors but a 15 to 30 year sentence is surely a symptom of serious judicial personality and morality problems. Cherry seems to have lost his mind simply because the injured animal was owned by the cops, a police dog belonging to the Harrisburg force of bumblers. Harrisburg, the capital of Pennsylvania, is a puke-puddle of political corruption and incompetence. It's run like a repressive Alabama cotton plantation by a political boss named Reed. One of the best criminal lawyers in Pennsylvania, Allen C. Welch, represented the defendant in this case. The lawyer was unable to reason with the judge that a dog is, after all, just a dog. Compare this case with the one involving one of Judge Cherry's political cronies, former state representative Druce. Durce killed a man, but was sentenced to only 2 years. To add insult to injury, the Republican hack is walking off the sentence on the streets. Of course, he only killed a black pedestrian. To a Republican judge, that's hardly a crime at all compared to shooting a dog. |
