There's this self-important egotist named Imus. He's an example of the unfortunate effects of country/western music on the human personality. He lives in New Your City so he dresses up like a cowboy. Apparently, he hopes it will attract attention.
Egotism is like that.
While Imus is confused and unpleasant, he also possesses some sterling traits. From some motivation, likely guilt, he's charitable. He's only charitable when and where he can get plenty of credit and praise for his acts of generosity. He's not one of those guys who hides his light under a bushel or doesn't let his left hand know what his right hand is doing. His idea of charity is to make sure that his radio and TV audience appreciates what a great guy he is. That's how egotism works. Imus' principal talent is name-calling. He has a great fondness for demeaning others by calling them names. "That idiot!" is one of his favorite phrases. He's aided in his endeavor by a quartet of yes-men. Two of those marionettes seem to be genuinely pretty nice fellows. That doesn't stop them from joining Imus's verbal abuses. Egotism flourishes with well-paid yes-men. Imus may not always be entirely responsible for some of what he says or does. Much of the time he appears to be on medication. Medication may be an excuse for paranoia, dimwittedness and even slurred speech. It seems an unlikely excuse for bullying or for racism. It's not really clear if he's a racist, but sometimes he raises a strong suspicion. Sometimes he seems to demean Arabs, Hispanics and Afro-Americans even more than he demeans others. It's not uncommon for egotists to need whipping boys. At least one of Imus' self-boasted charities deals with children. Apparently his idea is to instill savagery into ill tykes to make them more combative and violent. He sets an example for the children by being verbally abusive. He may not be abusive to the sick kids, but the example is the same. He's the kind of egotist who expresses not just his personal likes and dislikes of others, but also his general intolerance. Teaching children intolerance is, perhaps one of his most egotistical skills. Imus expresses a fondness for militarism and glorifies those who fight and kill one another. His politics are based on some shallow dimension of how he likes or more often dislikes some individual and not on policies of decency. Imus is certainly not more egocentric than many, many broadcast personalities. The whole crew at the FOX snooze channel are demagogues with egos bigger than brains. It goes to show that many Americans like bigotry and egoism.
