If prison has any socially redeeming value, what is it? What is the proper use of jail and prison - if there is one? Whatever the use of jail may be, I'll tell you what it's use isn't. A homely young socialite, the Hilton heiress, was tossed into the jug, into solitary, do you believe! We're certainly no defenders of the rich. We're certainly not apologists for wild drunken women on a suicide mission. But we don't think people should be jailed simply because we're jealous that they're rich. Crackpot Los Angeles prosecutors, rubber-stamped by a crackpot judge, put the young woman in jail. The excuse was that she'd been driving drunk. They gave her 40 days in solitary. The woman was no threat. She wasn't a danger to anyone but herself. She was just foolish. That's no reason to jail her. If it has any use at all, jail is for dangerous persons, for persons who might hurt you. It's not for revenge. The woman was really jailed because she was richer than you are. We were jealous of her position and wanted to hurt her. The crackpots on television want "everybody treated equally." We agree with that principle. That doesn't mean that we should take the same revenge on everyone. Every individual should be evaluated separately by equal standards. Each case is unique. Would a retarded cripple warrant the same revenge as the cheerleader gotten high by her girlfriend? In the Hilton case, the woman was not evaluated equally. She was harshly punished simply because she's rich, wild and flamboyant. Such punishment is wrong. Just as we have no fondness of the rich and foolish, we have no love of Republicans or conservatives. Our Politics Department is full of stories about their misdeeds. Republicans hold very bad political convictions, but that doesn't mean they should be jailed. Lewis "Scooter" Libby was convicted of perjury. He was sentenced to two and a half years in federal prison. It's certainly not news that Libby's a liar. He's a Republican, for heaven sake! Republican means liar. It also means cheat, exploiter of the fool, father of a police state and FOOL. The question really is, how is society protected or how is society benefited by putting Libby in prison? There's no benefit. It's just revenge. Jailing Libby is dumb. A better, more practical sentence should have been fashioned. He should be required to work, banned from government, fined, required to pay taxes and rear his children. The criminal in the Libby affair is VP Penis Cheney. Sorry, "Dick" Cheney. He's a truly evil person. He's the black soul of a truly evil and murderous regime, the worst administration in history of the nation. Cheney is a war criminal. He's a political criminal of the first order. Libby is a liar. He's a Republican, What else would you expect? We shouldn't jail the sucker because Cheney is an enemy of mankind. Libby doesn't belong in jail. It would be punishment enough to force him to spend time around Cheney.
