Vote Against
Jeffrey Haste and His Cronies

If you're one of the unfortunates who live in Dauphin County you probably already know about Jeff Haste. He's a county commissioner and boss of the Prison Board. He's a man who should be tossed out on his ear. When you're at the polls, vote against Haste and all his cronies.

Dauphin County is in South-Central Pennsylvania. It's home of Harrisburg, the Unfriendly City, capital of the state. It has a notorious jail, a savage gulag of continuing abuses and mismanagement, violence and torture. At the top of the heap of responsibility for the mistreatment of prisoners (and the public) is Jeff Haste. Vote against him and against abuse of prisoners.

After one jail guard, Daniel C. Hosler was finally busted, Haste showed his contempt for the hundreds of prisoners who've been brutalized and abused in the jail. Haste pontificated that 98% to 95% of the jail's guards do a great job, an ethical jOb. How could he possible know such a thing? Where did he get such a statistic? Why, he invented it. He made it up. He lied. He covered up for the epidemic of abuses at the jail.

Even if Haste was telling the truth and 95% of the 211 guards are "doing an ethical job," that means that there are 10 or 11 rotten guards. How come only 1 has been caught? It's because Jeffrey Haste hasn't done his job. There have been hundreds of complaints about brutality and abuse. Haste is the chairman of the prison board. He knew or should have known what kind of a black-hole he was managing. If he didn't know, he's incompetent by definition. If he did know (as we believe), he's complicit in the abuse. Vote against him.

Every bit as bad as Jeffrey Haste is Edward M. Marsico, Jr., district attorney for Dauphin County. Vote against him, too. Marsico knew for years about the violent abuses at the Dauphin County jail. He didn't do squat. He seems to be one of those Republican hacks who cares about the wealthy and their money, but doesn't give a thought to the poor or the imprisoned. Marsico only brought charges against the guard Daniel Hosler because there was such a widespread public outcry. There also happened to be a videotape of Hosler beating a woman's head into a steel gate. Dozens of other cases which are just as compelling have gone unprosecuted. why?

DA Ed Marsico has done virtually nothing to protect prisoners. He's as derelict as Haste. Only public protest finally motivate the "public servent" to do his job. Come election time, vote against him.
