The following is the text of an actual prison memo sent by a "unit manager" to a prisoner. It is intended to explain to the prisoner why the prison refused to recommend the man for parole even though it had recommended him in the past and he'd kissed every butt that had ben pushed into his face.
Superintendent [Scum] has referred your [May 1997] correspondence to me for response. Mr. [Papb] is correct that politics has affected your institutional recommendation for parole. As a result of changes in the political climate violent offenders are being held more accountable [sic] for their offenses than they were in the past. In the past if you completed all of your prescribed programming and remained misconduct fee you would be supported for parole. Today a lot of weight is placed on your current offense and criminal history. This is why you were not supported for parole.
