Over the years that we've published this service, some of our
writers have been harshly critical of certain prison guards,
administrators and staff members. As publisher, I personally
acknowledge that our generalizations are occasionally lese than
fair. Not all prison employees do had things. Few of
them are bad people.
I've recently had some incidental business dealings with a prison guard. For obvious reasons, I won't identify him. I'll just call him "Doc." Doc's proven himself to be helpful, sincere, honest, conscientious, fair and polite. I'm a woman in her fifties. It's not uncommon for some man to take financial advantage of me or, at least, to try to take advantage. Even knowing my association with this webs1te, Doc conducts himself like a responsible gentleman. While it's a stark contrast to the sophomoric bullying of some guards (such as a sergeant Reed who's employed at a different prison) this guard's good conduct is not unique. Over the years, I've come into contact with a number of members of prison staffs who've conducted themselves as well as any member of society. Because we're in the business of advocating prison reform, we sometimes lose perspective and forget to acknowledge the good people we meet. Our position is that there should be more of the Docs and fewer of the Reeds. |
