Veteran Guard Shafted
By "Buddies"

I was a guard in a male diagnostic center and in a super-max. We had all "level 5" (highest security) inmates. I worked there for 5 years, going on 6.

I was put under investigation due to a captain and a third party sexual harassment. The captain was fired. It had a lot to do with the fact that I told the truth.

I was punished severely. I was harassed day in and day out. They [the staff] made a pact to get rid of me no matter what. My stress level was always extremely high as I tried to fight them. I also wasn't liked by some because I didn't get drunk and screw around with the white-shirts [commissioned officers].

I would get written up for petty things; if I was a minute late, for example. I can't begin to tell you how often I was put under investigation.

I continued to tell the truth.

I was a firm, fair and very consistent officer. I worked in the hole for two years and in food service for two years. I then went to work release.

Work release was pretty laid back. I worked a floor of approximately 100 men. I never had a problem. If I did, it always got worked out.

I received a phone call one night at home from a captain to warn me that I was going to be set up. I was told that I needed to watch my back and to check my car for drugs before going to work. The next thing I knew, I was phoned from home to go to the superintendent's office. They told me that they'd just locked up an inmate for drugs. Three inmates said that I had brought in the drugs.

I was put on leave with pay. I took my stress test and passed. I was told that I was a good fucking liar.

I finally just quit. I couldn't handle all the talk and the crap they were dragging me through. I was threatened that I could get jail time.

I'll tell you this, I did my job. I was an outspoken person, but I always tried to make people laugh. I was never evil. To make it as a guard one must be evil. I treated inmates the way I wanted to be treated. Guess what, it works!

Well, anyway, I quit because we all know that when it comes to the state and all their money, they can do whatever they want. It's a shame. I almost have 15 years in with the state and I had to go down like this.

PS I also would like to say to some of you heartless bastards, what goes around, comes around!
