Before becoming a guard in the Lackawanna County jail in Scranton
in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Joseph Frazier was convicted
of murder. But, the victim was only a black boy, and it was
only a gang fight. For jail officials, that's a trivial matter.
We shouldn't regard any of it as unusual. Many prison guards
are viciously violent and criminal. Prison officials are usually
worse.
Before becoming a prison guard, Joseph Frazier was convicted of shoplifting, two counts. That's a common crime for prison guards. There's a captain at Huntingdon prison with a similar record. Frazier must have seemed like the ideal candidate to jail warden Thomas Gilhooley and his minions. Frazier was running for the school board, what could be better? The kids need a role model. Then, Joseph Frazier was busted again, this time for selling marijuana to prisoners in the jail. What's the harm in a little weed for a murderer? |
