Where can I turn to get the news, the real news?
I'm
flooded with stuff that's called news, but it isn't.
It's tabloid
drivel.
It's shoveled on me as a distraction.
I'm not supposed
to pay attention to what's really going on.
The American media is like a house of mirrors - a dozen pictures each showing a slightly varied angle of the same overworked, repetitive bit of gossip. The BBC used to come close to news. National Public Radio sometimes slightly breaks the media lock-step to tell me what's happening in Peru or China, the discoveries in Spain or the politics of Korea. The other news stations all echo one another. They harp on one or two stories. There's always a crime story with sex. America is completely obsessed with other people's sexuality. There's always a tear-jerker story about a pretty upper class white woman. Nobody reports on the poor, the dark or the ugly people. Whenever possible there's a story with gruesome or colorful entertaining TV footage. Fires are the favorite. Car chases make great public pap and, of course, the religious crazies (and America is loaded with the weirdest sorts of Christian nuts) are always inflated into "news." They should be allowed to stay nonsense. The Fox folks avoid news and stick pretty much to lies and propaganda, selling the extremist politics of the control freaks. CBS still sometimes tries to report real stories, but more and more it's simply another mouthpiece for government smoke screens. The government doesn't want you to know what's really going on. You're being screwed, Charlie, but don't pay any attention. Like NBC and ABC, the CNN stations focus on entertainment over news. Facts are replaced with fluff and repetition. An unimportant story is made important by being endlessly repeated especially if it involves some celebrity. Doesn't anybody respect me enough to just give me the facts? Can't I interpret things for myself? Do I need political pundits to tell me what I'm suppose to make of the facts? Even the Weather Channel and Comedy Central filter the facts through censorship gauze, no showing a naked titty, a bare butt or a lying Republican politician shrieking "fuck!" I'm "protected" from reality. All that business about free speech and free press is bunk. America is the most censored media in the civilized world. At one time war news was important. It revealed that war is not heroic, not patriotic, not glamorous, not exciting. It's a horror! Real war news make people want to avoid war at almost any cost. Little war news is reported now because those in authority want wars. The big corporations and the old conservative politicians profit from wars so you won't be told the real horrors. Do you want your kid killed so that Halliburton can make a buck? There are no longer many reporters. Now we have parrots. These people simply repeat what some official or authority figure tells them to say. They don't really investigate things. This website frequently must call the media to task for its submissive role as propaganda outlets for official distortions. Can't any of you guys look at things for yourselves? Do you just believe the crap belched out by officials? Where it comes to the imprisonment racket and the just-us industry, it's a good practice to look past the canned news release.
