Innocent Man
Released From Death Row
By: Francis DeSales

In 1982 Rebecca Lynn Williams was viciously raped and murdered in Virginia. The authorities needed someone, anyone to pin with the horrible crime. In America, the most important thing is to get retribution, punish someone for a crime. It's not important if the person is guilty or not. American "justice" requires a sacrificial victim, not a guilty perpetrator.

The authorities settled on Earl Washington, Jr. as their sacrificial victim. He's a black man who is mentally impaired, a moron with an IQ of 69 and a petty criminal. One wonders if a person with the mental capacity of a ten year-old can form the mental intent necessary to be "criminal."

The authorities badgered and coerced Mister Washington. It was as easy as intimidating a child. He confessed to the crimes! Even though he hadn't committed them. He wanted to please the authorities who were demanding his confession. The cops were delighted. American "justice" was delighted. Earl Washington, Jr. was sentenced to death. Nobody much cared. He was only a feeble-minded black fellow who had committed petty crimes. Why not sacrifice him?

Mr. Washington was put onto death row. He came very close to being executed. Some lawyers questioned the case and had DNA tests done. Golly! The DNA didn't match! That was annoying to the authorities.

You wonder how many innocent men aren't that lucky. How many persons have been killed? How many will be killed just because of luck. There's absolutely no doubt that death row is cluttered with innocent persons.

After the DNA tests and after Mister Washington had rotted for 12 years on death row, Virginia Governor L. Douglas Wilder communed Mister Washington's sentence to life in prison. If the man was not guilty, why wasn't he simply released? Well, under American "justice," if a man might be guilty, that's a good enough reason to punish him. "Innocent until proven guilty," bunk! Don't believe any of it. In reality, it's the other way around. Mister Washington couldn't prove that he wasn't guilty.

One thing is for certain, the butcher Governor of Pennsylvania, Thomas Ridge, would never have been swayed by a little thing like innocence. Ridge is committed to killing citizens.

For Earl Washington, Jr., more DNA tests were performed. In 2000, the test showed that the rape/murder had been committed by two other men. Finally, after 19 years in prison, Governor Jim Gilmore pardoned Mr. Washington. Lots of Americans were angry. Why was the black moron being released? Innocence is, to them, irrelevant. American "justice" is about revenge. Don't think you can get away just because you're innocent!

The point of this story is that Virginia is much better than Pennsylvania. Don't come to Pennsylvania, don't do business here. And, think about how many others on death row are waiting for us, you and me, the society to kill them even though they didn't commit the crime. Capitol punishment is simply wrong and a confession doesn't make it right.
