What a sweetheart contract! The less they do, the more they make!
An out-of-state outfit using the fictitious name "EMSA Correctional Care," got a contract worth $120,000,000.00 to "provide medical care" for the 10,000 prisoners in the 9 prisons in the Western District of Pennsylvania. The firm is a subsidiary of the gigantic InPhyNet Medical Management, Inc. They are said to "manage" about 2 out of every hundred doctors in the country!
Knowing Governor Ridge's habit of steering gravy to his corporate bedfellows, we wonder who his political cronies are at EMSA. In typical fashion, the Department of Corrections is keeping secret the other bids it received for the medical "care." What does this administration care about the Right to Know Law? With this kind of money up for grabs and a Governor who really (I mean REALLY!) wants to be President, would anyone be tempted to stray?
We suggest you carefully watch EMSA and try to buy a share of stock in InPhyNet. Maybe that way you'll get your money's worth, but will the prisoners?
