| The federal "EPA" (Environmental Protection Agency) has finally stumbled upon crimes that most of us have known about for decades; the state prisons cause very serious pollution.
The EPA has fined the Department of Corrections ("DOC") less than a hundred thousand dollars for dangerous environmental violations at SCI-Graterford in the Eastern part of Pennsylvania. It's small potatoes compared with what the DOC is brazenly getting away with at other prisons such as the repeated burial of dangerous toxins, pollutants, chemicals and heavy metals at SCI-Rockview, open burning and incineration of drugs, tires, petroleum waste, chemicals and so forth at several prisons, the flushing into the sewers and waterways of enormous volumes of toxic poisons, automotive chemicals and oil at many prisons, especially SCI-Camp Hill and SCI Greene. There are innumerable other examples. The DOC has a system-wide contempt for the law. The present regime arrogantly believes itself to be above the law. Prisons and their administrators are not just bad for society, they are bad neighbors. We all pay for their abuse of the environment as we also pay for their abuse of prisoners.
