Prisoners Maybe Entitled
To Government Money

The Internal Revenue Service of the federal government administers the Earned Income Credit also called the Earned Income Tax Credit.

This benefit gives money called a "refund" even where no money was paid to the government. The money is available to certain eligible citizens. Generally the individual must have only a small income (under $35,458.), be unmarried and be under 65 years of age.

Many prisoners may be eligible.

The individual files forms with the government to receive a small rebate. The payment from the government may amount to $200 or so.

Prisoners and/or their loved ones may want to get the government booklet Earned Income Credit (EIC) from the IRS. The IRS may be contacted online at www.irs.gov. Materials and information are available by snail-mail from:
