Worse than the most dread disease, worse than AIDS or cancer or farts in an elevator, are the Control Freaks! They are the rule makers, the forces, the politicians, the religions, the persons who want you to do as they please, not as you please.
They are the evil germs who want to manage what you do and how you do it. They want to be in control.
The Control Freaks are the mortal enemies of your liberty.
Liberty is the individual's freedom to do whatever he wishes so long as he doesn't offend the next guy's liberty. It's a great freedom!
In times gone by, at least in America and especially in Pennsylvania (once, but no longer a bastion of freedom), liberty was a cherished right. Each individual was free of governmental control. He had the freedom to do whatever he wished to do. Law was limited to curtailing clashes between one person's liberty and the next person's liberty.
In those bygone times the idea was that each person should be as free as possible, and no one, not government or society or his neighbor would tell him how he should behave. But even then, the Control Freaks were trying to infect us and steal our liberty.
The Control Freaks are quick to explain that they only want what's best. . .their idea of best, of course. They only want you to live as you should live. Of course, it's their idea of should. They just want you to conduct your life in the right way. Of course, it's their idea of what is the right way.
Though it's always been a struggle, we who love liberty have usually been able to fend off the deadly Control Freaks. But, things are changing. Drugs are the reason.
The Control Freaks have sold the people a bill of good, a lie, a Trojan Horse. They've found the way to get you to give up your liberties and to let them have control over your lives. Drugs are the excuse.
Ever since the crazy Puritan Pilgrims slaughtered the Indians and each other with their madness of control, it's been axiomatic that feeling good is bad, that pleasure is bad and that having a good time is bad. This insanity has become a permanent tenant in the American approach to life and has been written into many of our excess of laws.
If you take a drug to cure an illness, that's okay, but if you take a drug to give yourself pleasure or to feel "good" (or what some folks call "good"), that's bad. It's so bad that there are laws against it.
The Control Freaks know that it's very bad for people (at lease other people) to have pleasure or to feel good. Many laws have been enacted to punish people for trying to use chemicals to feel good. In the name of controlling that supposed evil, the Control Freaks have eaten up your liberty.
I'm the first to agree that using chemicals is silly, even stupid. It's not usually in an individuals' best interest to get drunk or "high." It's not usually desirable for his body or his mind. In a broader sense, it's not healthy to the society.
Having said all that, it's none of my business what pleasure the other guy gets, or how foolishly he behaves, or what he does to his body or mind. It's not even my business how he effects society. I'm allowed to effect society as I think is right and he's got the same liberty.
Not since the crazy Puritans went on their fanatic witch hunts has this country been so thoroughly duped. The Control Freaks have used drugs as if they were demons. They are busily protecting society from pleasure. In the name of stamping out the bogeyman of drugs, the Control Freaks have won the battle. They have you under their control.
You're well on your way to being a slave of the state and drugs have been used to con you into giving up your freedom. Before you lose the last vestige of personal freedom, wise up. Forget about drugs. Erase the silly drug laws. Put the Control Freaks out of business. They are the real enemy!
