While we strenuously oppose the death penalty in any and all situations, there is a dark irony in the news from New York. Recently the misguided citizens reinstated the death penalty. The very first person convicted to die under the new law is a prison guard. He has been characterized as a "hero guard." (Talk about your oxymorons!)
While we seriously doubt that anyone with the corrupt personality to be a prison guard could also be a "hero," we believe that not even the guard (his name is Darrel K. Harris) deserves execution. He's a guard and he showed his true colors. He just happened to rob and murder 3 civilians. If he had robbed and murdered 3 prisoners, nobody would even care. It happens all the time.
