Long ago I quit watching and listening to Don Imus. I
found him offensive, a bully with a nasty, self-important
personality. He supported extreme right-wing political fanatics
and was obnoxious. For all that, I fully support his right of
free speech. If fools want to listen to him, that's up to them.
Censorship is NEVER a good idea.
Imus had insulted hundreds of persons and groups. He was a name-caller who used words as weapons to hurt persons. It's part of the American freedom to make other's feel badly if it makes you feel less inferior. One Wednesday Imus made an obnoxious remark about some Afro-American women athletes. His remark and that of his parrot and sidekick were offensive and insulting. Worse, yet, they were untrue. The woman were not nappy-headed and not whores, or "hos" as he aped the black dialect. It was pretty foul, but not any worse than many other things he'd said. Imus was censored. He got fired. The big loss was to our freedom of speech. Certainly Imus' departure is a small loss. Darkies who were every bit as obnoxious and self-important as Imus, whined, bawled and complained. They were much too sensitive to endure an insulting remark. They screamed that it was raciest, sexist and unfair. They were no doubt completely correct. But there's more to it. In my experience, no group is nearly as racist as Darkies, just listen to ten minutes of their conversation. It's all race. No group are the racists that Afro-Americans are; not Europeans, Jews, Hispanic, Asians, Australian Aborigines; nobody. Afro-Americans use their race as an excuse, a crutch, a cachet for special treatment and special benefits. They use their race as a kind of weapon to demand special privileges and to bully others. I've got nothing against Afro-Americans, or Japs or Russians, or any other race, for that matter. I do find much of the Afro-American culture to be offensive, even self-destructive and socially injurious. I find much of the Afro-American value system to be dangerous, even irrational; assaulting someone in order to steal his sneakers, is uncivilized. It's what one expects from a Republican. It's unwise to judge persons by their race - whether for good or for bad. For sure, Afro-Americans don't need or deserve special kid-glove treatment because of their race. By the same token, they don't deserve to be maligned because of their race. Their culture could use criticism, however. I'm a great supporter of fair and equal treatment for everyone. At the same time, I believe that certain considerations should be allowed due to persons' circumstances both social and economic. But Afro-Americans aren't basket cases, weaklings who deserve to be carried simply because of their race. They don't deserve special handling because that're dark. Those who are needy or uneducated, may need help because of those factors, but not because they're black. The group that really needs help is the aliens, the intentional Americans who risk their lives to come to the United States. Help with language, education and healthcare are important to those who don't have and can't afford those essentials. As a group, aliens are hard-working and civil.
