I've been with my husband for four years.
We were friends for
two years before that.
Joe and I never had a sexual relationship
before he was set-up and railroaded into prison.
He's at the
Mahanoy state prison in Frackville.
When he was in jail, he asked me to marry him. We said our vows before God. We've been together since then. After putting up a battle with the prison chaplin we found someone in Centre County to bring paperwork and the mayor. I'm happy to say that this Monday we're saying our vows allover again on paper. During the time Joe's been at Mahanoy, we've been lied to and blamed for sexual things that we didn't do (not that I wouldn't love to). Each night we meet in our hearts and beds at 10PM. Each week I go to see him, smell him, and look at him. The brief hug that we're allotted at the beginning and end of the visit is only enough to torture us, yet make us hungry for more, but thankful to get the 1 second touch. My dreams are filled with Joe; we're so much in love, and we don't even have a sex life to remember. All we have are thoughts and fantasies of what it would be like. Although we have our imaginations and our 10PM, I would love so much to feel his arms around me. I want to make love to him so much that it tears my heart apart. I know it's hell for him, too. The chaplain seems to think that he's God - no, the devil! The visitors' handbook from the warden encourages frequent visits and relationships. The whole book makes it sound like it's right out of the Garden of Eden. It pretends that you can even get a quick okay from him for permission to get married. However, you have to go through the Chaplain. He's totally against marriage and tells you so right in his instruction sheet. He'll do everything to prevent you from wanting to get married. You receive no help from him. The prison guards have been so cruel to the women at the marriage license place that the women won't deal with them or help you in any way. Thanks to Jesus and our determination, we got help in Centre County. Of course, we want to consummate our marriage. There has to be a way to get conjugal visits. Aren't the state prisons under the Geneva Convention the same as for prisoners of war? It's strongly against any health or human cruelty. Any doctor will tell you that it's very unhealthy to not have a regular sex life because of the enzymes it releases in the body. Not having it can literally cause sickness. The lack or the withholding of human touch is considered by psychiatrists to be the cruelest abuse that a person can suffer. Well, you and I both know that human rights stop at the front door of the prison. There has to be a way to get the laws changed. I cannot describe how urgent it really is to have intimate visits.
