We have information that state prisoners and prison staff in
Pennsylvania and, perhaps other states, are being fed chicken
and chicken parts originating in China. Some fish may
also be coming from China.
Two sources at Camp Hill, Central Office of the Department of Imprisonment and at the prison where some foods are processed, inform us that many tons of frozen chicken (and perhaps some fish) bearing Chinese identification is part of the food supply for Pennsylvania state prisons. Our sources wish to remain anonymous, but we feel they are reliable. They say that while the Chinese food is intended primarily for prisoners, it's also fed to unsuspecting staff. The Chinese food is very cheap likely because it's contaminated. The Department of Imprisonment is all about money. It cares nothing about health or wellbeing. Other sources indicate that the chicken sent here is fed on dried human waste and decaying animal carcasses. It's slaughtered under filthy conditions which would be unacceptable in any American processing plant. Before freezing some of the chicken may be dipped in toxic disinfectant to kill some of the germs. Apparently thorough washing removes most of the chemicals. In prison kitchens washing anything (even hands) is extremely rare. We haven't yet heard of cases of prisoner illness connected with eating or handling the Chinese chicken. It may be safe. It may be a source of the epidemic of Staph infection in Pennsylvania prisons. It may be that the chicken is being tested on prisoners before being introduced into the food supply for the general population. Ask your local fast-food joint where those Buffalo wings come from. Our information about frozen fish is less definite. The fish which may originate in China appears to be repackaged to conceal its source. Chinese fish has been connected to serious illness due to contamination from chemicals, filth and waste.
