You simple-minded taxpayers are again being conned by the lying legislators (so what else is new?). This time joining in the gang-rape is that most devious of all rackets: the "corrections" industry.
You are being told that huge sums of your money are being squandered to keep those damn prisoners locked up. It's just another Pennsylvania lie.
Most of the money spent on "corrections" is really a kind of super state welfare and state subsidy. By far, the biggest public welfare scheme in the state is the huge handouts given to the "staff" who are employed by (but do very little work in) the state's two dozen dungeons.
Firstly, please understand that not a penny, not one, is really spent on "correcting" anyone. That's all bullshit. "Corrections" has nothing whatever to do with correction.
The greatest part of the gigantic "corrections" budget is really a tax subsidy to local Republican communities. Hundreds of millions of your dollars are transferred each year from the state treasury to prop up local Republican communities. Republicans can't make it without an under class for them to exploit and oppress.
How much, do you suppose would be spent on "corrections" if the money subsidized poor people or Democratic areas? Damn little, I'd bet.
Consider the many millions of dollars spent on prison food. You sucker taxpayers think that the fortune is spent to feed those scum-bag prisoners. Well, yes, some of it is.
About a third of the money, one dollar in three, gives free meals to the guards and the bloated prison staffs. A substantial portion of the food, especially special foods, is simply stolen and taken home to the prison staff's families.
The taxpayers buy all sorts of special foods for the prison staffs and where any staple is in short supply, it's given to the guards and taken from the prisoners. You might see fancy luncheon meats, cheeses or soda as a prison expenditure. It's not really for the prisoners. It's fed to the staff at your expense.
Some prisons buy mushrooms and feed them to prisoners. At first it may seem like an extravagance, but think about why they, and many other foods are really bought. It subsidizes producers, mostly Republicans. Pennsylvania's mushroom industry, along with other producers are subsidized as part of the state's great "corrections" welfare program.
Bread, milk, vegetables and other things may also be bought to subsidize the local Republican hick economy. Most of such communities simply can't survive without this welfare subsidy and the exploitation of an under class.
When your lying legislators tell you about how much prisoners are costing you, remember where the billion bucks is really going. It you're dumb enough to believe that prisoners are getting it, you deserve the screwing the politicians are giving you!
