Concerned Bookseller
Offers Services
By: Barbara Kestler, Manager

We frequently get offers and suggestions from businesses looking to market their wares to prisoners and prisoners' families. We seldom list any commercial firm except for the antique seller, Rebecca's Old Curiosity Shop, which has helped us so much with all our efforts. Recently, however, we got an email from Bob Spear about his business. We share part of it with you.

PROFFERED ASSISTANCE

"Dear Prisoner Support Group Sponsor"

"My wife and I own a small, independent bookstore called The Book Barn. We are often visited by families and friends of prisoners who are incarcerated in one of the many correctional facilities located around Leavenworth. They ask for two services: self-help books to assist them in working through problems they are having while awaiting their loved ones, and books for us to ship into prisons since families aren't allowed to do that themselves due to security regulations.

"May we direct your attention to our website, www.abookbarn.com? You can research books from our 1,000,000+ title database and order books for yourself or for your imprisoned loved one. We understand your needs and try to provide service in a caring manner. We are willing to provide free shipping and handling for website orders of $50 or more.

"We are also a used-book store and have tens of thousands of recent reading books. We often send packages of 10 or more books to prisoners so they will have something to do while whiling away the long hours. For this service, phone 913-682-6518.

"Thank you, Bob Spear, Owner."
