| [We got the following email from a man in Illinois
about his father imprisoned in Wyoming . Since
Pennsylvania uses the same health care contractor, we reproduce his sad
letter with some of our comments.]
"Wexford Strikes Again! I recently read your article about an inmate who died in the Wyoming State Penitentiary. "Well, my father just died at the hands of Wexford in Rawlins, WY. He passed away on 8 June 1999. He had COPD and CHF. At many times he was denied his medication. He was given the excuse that they were out of his medications. He would not receive vital drugs for three to five days. "At one time he required an oxygen concentrator. He requested it repeatedly for two days. He had to submit a written complaint before it was delivered. "My father told me about the man who died in October. My father, as well as the guards have informed me that Wexford was sharing medications from other prisoners. "My father was taken to Casper for cardiac evaluation. While he was there the guard placed ankle restraints on him. His ankles were so swollen that the guard had to force to get the shackles to latch on the first notch. This caused my father a lot of pain. When he complained to the guard, the guard put a pad between the cuff and his skin. This caused even worse constriction and suffering. "The story goes on, but the point of the matter is
that my father might be alive today if he would have received the medications
as they were prescribed to him.
Editors Note: We urge Mr. Stone and everyone else who has been subjected to malpractice or cruelty, to sue. We have received numerous reports where medications, especially those which were narcotic and could be sold for a profit were not dispensed to the sick prisoners by the prison staff. Draw your own conclusions. |
