Because of how very badly they've been treated, tens of thousands
of aliens are leaving the United States. Many thousands are taking
their skills, labor and economic energies to Canada. It's a much
more friendly environment. Thousands more are returning to their
homelands. Poverty is far preferable to being demeaned and
maligned by Republicans and their fellow political hacks.
The departing aliens take with them a bitter resentment against America and Americans. They've been cursed and despised by the far right-wing political class of Americans, the haters. Like millions of aliens before them, the recent waves came to America to work and make decent lives for themselves. Many had hoped to build families. Like the rest of us, they wanted to be respected. They wanted to be decent, valued citizens. Instead, these hard-workers were greeted with the Lou Dobbs syndrome, of ugly racism, hatred and contempt. These new, intentional Americans were greeted hostility by the accidental Americans who risk nothing to live here. After years of often rigorous toil, many of these valuable aliens, especially the Hispanics, have finally endured all they can stand. They're going home. With them goes a large part of the American economy, work force and diversity. Each alien spends between $10,000 and $20,000 a year in the US economy. That's a sum that's fostered all kinds of businesses and development in the poorest areas of the country. Much of America's economic growth can be traced to "illegal" aliens. Even worse, the aliens realize that they've been rejected and maligned by America. They take home resentment, hostility and anger for us and our country. They join the growing ranks of anti-Americans of which Hugo Chavez is only one example. Back home they tell others how bad Americans are, how greedy, how mean, how abusive. Again, the conservatives and Republicans have made America a worse place. In their ego and animosity the conservatives have again made America loathed around the world. If you wonder why we're disliked in all corners of the planet, the answer is Bush, Republicans and those foul conservatives. Treating people badly is the Republican way. They hold us all, all us common people, in contempt, but there's a backlash to such contempt. We become enemies of the very persons we should be befriending. Even Spanish is being treated as a second class language by right-wing fanatics. The aliens are called "criminals" simply because they struggled to come here to work. They risked life and limb to become Americans. What did you do to become an American? It was just an accident. Accidental Americans look down on intentional American and say they are "illegal." If they are, it's because of a law passed by foolish politicians. Change the law!
