2 Lessons On
The Politics of the Katrina Disaster

By: Joseph McCarthy

Lesson One

Immediately after the terrible disaster of the Katrina hurricane, ample aid and help was made available to Mississippi. The federal government was nice to Mississippi. President George W. Bush gave Mississippi special considerations.

In Louisiana it was just the reverse. New Orleans got screwed. The Louisiana Governor was shunned. The federal government blamed her for the tragedy.

Mississippi is a Republican state, run by right-wing bigots. Louisiana is a Democratic state. Many of the citizens oppose the Bush manias. The Republican federal government intentionally punished the Democratic Louisiana.

Lesson Two

As soon as the gun-toters arrive in New Orleans, the helping stopped and the bullying started. Cops did what cops do. They tried to harm and oppress the citizens. Guns were pointed at citizens. Citizens were cut down in hails of gunfire. Newsmen were intimidated. NBC reporters were nearly fired upon.

At gun point mobs of cops unconstitutionally broke into citizens homes, threatened them and threw them out. The cops forced citizens to obey dictatorial orders.

Cops are bad. Cops are bullies. Cops don't help. Firemen help, medics help. Cops harm. Cops make the citizens the enemy. Cops should be disarmed. Soldiers should be disarmed.

The Republican federal government views American citizens as the enemy just as it views Iraqis as the enemy. Bush's government will justify any kind of brutality and abuse.
